My first video project

Over the past weeks, everyone in the class had to break up into groups and form a team for our video projects. I was in a team with Jarisel and Lupe, and our theme was the distractions that take place during a tutoring session. We picked this idea because it was most interesting to us, and we each came up with out own scene. We all contributed not only with our ideas for our own scene, but gave suggestions for each other's scene. Yesterday was filming day, and we filmed in the writing center for Jarisel's scene with Lupe, and my scene was also done there but in the back at a table with Lupe. The final scene took place by the patio and it was Lupe's idea, and she did it with Jarisel. I liked that we used different places, and played around with the many angles. For example, we did wide shots of both characters and we also zoomed into the main character, which helped us get across the message that we were trying to portray.
The first scene in the writing center was about the media distractions that can take place during a tutoring session. Jarisel's character portrayed a student that was constantly on her phone, and Lupe was the tutor who was trying to get her to pay attention. While Lupe and Jarisel was in shooting the scene, I was in the back sending text messages to Jarisel so her phone would go off in the scene. Jarisel's phone going off played a main factor with telling our message, because we wanted to show why using a phone in a session except for educational purposes can be very distracting. The routine of each scene was for us to introduce the scenes with the characters, and at the end of each scene one of us would look into the camera and say why this scene is an example of what tutors should not do. The second scene was done by Lupe and I. This was the scene that I came up with, which was a tutor being a therapist instead of helping the student with his/her work. In this scene Lupe attempted to begin the session but I cutted her off and began telling her about problems with my boyfriend. Lupe's idea was for me to take my character to a next level with making me laying on the table, similar to what patients do in a therapy session. That scene ended with her saying that tutors are here to help students, and not be their therapists. This message was veryt true because a tutor could be sucked into talking about things that are off topic instead of them getting to the students' work. It is okay to talk a little off topic to ease out any anxiety, nervousness, or any other feeling to make the student feel more comfortable. This could easily be done by asking students off the bat how they are doing?
The last scene was done by Lupe and Jarisel, with Jarisel being the tutor and Lupe being the student that was distracted by everything outside. The purpose of this scene was to show that sometimes students and tutors could be distracted by going to places where they are a lot of people talking, loud noses, or just things going on. During the scene, there was a guy that walked in front of Lupe and she was so distracted that she told Jarisel that she would be back so she could talk ti the man. At the end Jarisel said that is why tutors help students in places similar to the writing center, where tutors give students their full attention and work with them to enhance their assignments.
